Seeking refuge and solace after a horrifying loss, traumatized Harper flees London and holes up in a secluded manor in the idyllic English countryside. But healing, like change, takes time. And, haunted by painful memories and unbearable guilt, Harper thirsts for redemption. However, a brief exploration of the lush local landscapes reveals strange happenings as uncomfortable encounters thwart Harper's ambitious plans to bounce back. As a result, irremediable grief turns into a sinister undercurrent of malaise, and soon, sheer dread takes over. Now there's nowhere to hide. Can the slow, transformative process of repair in mind, body, and soul become an inescapable nightmare?
This movie is a lot THE NIGHTHOUSE in that it's a really beautiful trippy horror movie about someone going through an overwhelming amount of trauma. Except it's got awfully dense and boring with no satisfying conclusion whatsoever.
This movie was a real massive let down for me. I kept trying to enjoy myself and waiting for things to make sense, and neither of those things happened at any point in time. The fact that I bought this on Blu-ray now means that there will be another small plastic dish and some garbage patch in the ocean somewhere, but I would rather have that happen than own this movie.
It's painfully slow, has some surprisingly mediocre acting for such a big budget art house movie, did I mention just how fucking boring this movie is? No kills, no crazy gore effects (until the last 10 minutes), and no joy.
