I never in a million years would have thought Rob zombie would be making a PG MUNSTERS remake, although I can't really imagine anyone else doing a better job.
This movie has a lot of the casting and certainly the directing to be a beyond competent remake, but commits the ultimate crime of a comedy film that never makes you laugh. The PG rating does of course suggest that I'm about 12 years older than the intended viewing audience, yet this a movie full of classic horror references no child would ever understand. It has no understanding whatsoever of the difference between word play and clever writing, are there really only one or two laughs in the whole movie for me.
If you're familiar with the majority of Rob zombie's work might be a little upsetting to see such iconic rapist and torturers playing such basic and supposedly lovable characters. It really isn't terribly distracting, Just a little weird
On top of that this is easily the worst performance from Sherry Moon zombie, and it's extremely obvious that she was totally miscast in this role. I'm almost certain if it wasn't for nepotism she wouldn't be in this movie at all, but it wouldn't be a Rob zombie movie If you couldn't put his hot wife in there somehow.
I honestly bought the movie more so out of curiosity as opposed to me being some lifelong Munsters fan, but hey if you're a goth parent looking to get your kids in early this movie's perfect for ya.
Or if you're really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really stoned
