i'm ACAB till death, but the cops in this movie are some of my favorite in horror history.
Joel, a caustic 1980's film critic for a national horror magazine, finds himself unwittingly trapped in a self-help group for serial killers. With no other choice, Joel attempts to blend in with his homicidal surroundings or risk becoming the next victim.
if you can handle the overly snarky AVENGERS style dialogue, this movie has a lot to love. this movie is beautifully colorful, and the directing and production design are all perfect. you can tell the team behind this movie really understand the special magic of 80s horror. its clearly a movie meant for horror fans, and its full of lovely nods to dozens of classic horror tropes and movies.
this movie is full of great characters. every member of the self-help group (except Joel) is unique, and instantly fun as hell. you get a hilarious Pat Bateman wannabe, an old German clown, Joan Jett, That Asian guy from RED 2, and of course grumpy sexy JASON. I love the suicide squad style character intros, and it sort of makes the whole movie feel like a comic book. it has a great sense of dream reality that helps makes the violence less disturbing, and it all blends well with the horror comedy tone. with so many fun serial killers running around, this movie is exactly as bloody as you want it to be.
vicious fun is the best way possible to describe this movie.
9/10 because god Joel is annoying
