For Halloween this year, I was beyond excited to get a chance to watch VHS with my queen since she had never seen it before. For a movie released in 2012, I was impressed by Just how little this whole movie holds back with its gore and sexuality. The series has only gone on to become more and more nasty, and I'm pleased to report that the latest entry into the franchise is unquestionably the most glorious and darkest one so far.
V/H/S/85 is a 2023 American found footage horror anthology film and the sixth installment in the V/H/S franchise. The film features segments from David Bruckner, Scott Derrickson, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Natasha Kermani and Mike P. Nelson.
An ominous broadcast brings viewers forgotten nightmares of the 1980s: a disaster recovery crew unleashes the wrath of an ancient god; a lake that brings the dead back to life; a performance art piece makes contact with a creature from the beyond; an all-guns-out undead bloodbath, and a disturbing vision of videotaped murders.
This movie f****** rules. Between this movie's far too realistic opening segment, a bizarre SCP blob boy, Scott Derrickson giving us more of his infamous SINISTER kill tapes, Gigi Saul Guerrero's god-awakening splatterfest, this is a damn near flawless entry into the franchise. Yeah, I admit the weird ass performance art one didn't really do anything for me, but every other segment in this movie is reminiscent of the best segments of all the movies before it.
It's a delightfully dark Halloween treat. That was well worth getting excited for, this movie does not disappoint.
