If you asked me to describe this movie the first time i watched it, i would describe it as a long Uber ride with murder alien Scarlett Johansson. i had no clue what was happening, and frankly i was bored. but after spending some more time with this movie, and listening to far better movie fans than myself talk about it, this movie has become one of my favorites. i mean, what else could you expect from the guy who wrote and directed MANDY.
Cosmatos movies have always been less about plot, and more about visual. it reminds of David Lynch talking about why he wanted to make movies. he wanted to make a moving paintings, and these movies could easily described as a moving painting. MANDY was a balls to the wall 80s style masterpiece full of color, and this film is much less colorful. Mandy felt like one long drug trip, and this movies feels much more like the real world. normal people doing normal things in normal settings. because of that, this movie to me feels alot more unsettling, bleak, and somehow just as beautiful. its a feeling thats hard to describe, and a movie that you really have to see for yourself to fully appreciate.
but maybe less boring car rides next time Panos.
UPDATE: turns out this Panos had nothing to do with this movie. I seriously thought he directed it to the point where i didnt wven check. My bad.
Also Pano didnt write Mandy. Oops
