THE STARS TURN AND TIME PRESENTS ITSELF

TIME AND TIME AGAIN
SOMETIMES MY ARMS BEND BACK
IS IT FUTURE OR IS IT PAST?
That first episode damn near killed me to write and it turned out pretty dang yucky. To do these episode by episode reviews going forward would simply be to talk about the stuff that jumps out at me. Something worth talking about instead of trying to talk about every single thing in the episode all at once.
Matthew Lillard Goes full Stu
Matthew Lillard was undoubtedly a highlight of the first episode, but this episode he really goes ham on the acting in a way that 100% works for me. We also get another classic Twin Peaks rug pulled out from under you moment, it's right when you think he's about to confess to the affair instead decides to tell her about the dream he had the night it happened.
An incredible acting, and it gets me excited knowing where the conclusion of his story is.
WHAT THE FUCK MOMENTS
A random shot of a train at night, Mr. C face squishing, Coopers pit stop in a glass box
ICONIC MOMENTS
Sarah Palmer getting drunk as fuck and watching animals kill each other, The first BANG BANG BAR concert finale in the series, James was always cool (I call bullshit)
MR C CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
It's crazy that Dale Cooper is one of the most lovable and wholesome characters I've ever seen, and Mr C mix my skin crawl by simply standing still. The two characters are quite literally the polar opposite of each other, and I cannot praise Kyle MacLachlan enough for his incredible acting ability. He is quite literally being asked to play the embodiment of pure evil, and he nails it.
This episode further develops his unwavering cruelty, The scope of his operation, his Judy Ace of spades, and that Philip Jeffries himself is working to stop him. Also bonus points for just how much brain matter came out underneath that pillow. David Lynch sure knows how to keep the gore hounds happy.
EXPLORING THE RED ROOM
The red room and the surreal elements was always my favorite part of the original Twin Peaks, and I absolutely adore how much time we spend in the Red Room. The modern CG also lets us expand the red room into quite literally another universe to explore, and it's fun as hell even this early to explore.
And once again I feel the urge to say we're just getting started
