I was in the car lot as a kid, but thankfully I was lucky enough to have a vehicle with a built in dvd player. We had this binder full of CDs in the backseat that fit about 30 or so, and among the 30 was the first three Tremors movies. All the movies kind of blend together in my head, and I never Revisited the series since I was about 12 or 13. Thankfully the first one at least holds up very well.
I wouldn't really call Tremors a horror movie, more like a horror comedy. When I was a kid the graboids didn't seem like much of a threat, and they still don't in a way. Now don't get me wrong, I think being pulled under ground and suffocating under the weight of the dirt is probably one of the worst ways to die. Imagining the scenario is truly scary and they could have really went into horror territory with this one. Instead though, you get some Three Stooges like action for Mark to Leeds Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward. They never really try to make the graboids scary, which is probably why i found this so enjoyable as a kid.
It said in a small town with 14 residents, and you really get a sense like everyone in town has known each other for years and years. The only real part of this movie that I found distracting was the point of view camera from the Graboid. If you're going to have an underground monster that killing people, you can't have an above-ground point of view. That will forever drive me insane. I have yet to see the second one again so hopefully they don't do the same thing in the second one.
If you're looking for a good comedy movie with some awesome creature design and practical effects, I highly recommend tremors
