Lets define what a tilbury is before we go any farther.
Tilberi (carrier) or Snakkur (spindle) is a creature of Icelandic folklore, created by witches to steal milk. To create a tilberi, the woman steals a rib from a recently buried body early on Whitsunday, twists around it grey wool which she must steal for the purpose and keeps it between her breasts. (It is sometimes specified that the wool must be plucked from between the shoulders of a widow's sheep soon after its wool has been plucked.) The next three Sundays at communion she spits the sanctified wine on the bundle, which will come more alive each time. She then lets it suckle on the inside of her thigh, which creates a tell-tale wart-like growth.
The woman can now send the tilberi to suck milk from others' cows and ewes. It will return to the window of her dairy and call out "Full belly, Mummy!" or "Churn lid off, Mummy!" and vomit the stolen milk into her butter churn.
In the year 1940 when there were British forces in Iceland, a country boy goes to Reyjavik to work for the army. He also wants to know what became of his childhood sweetheart. He soon discovers that she's having an affair with a British soldier. Moreover, he starts to suspect that the soldier, instead of being an officer and a gentleman, is in fact a very peculiar kind of monster
As you might expect from someone who has just learned about an Icelandic cryptid birthed from a human rib wrapped in wool nestled in between some boobs that feed off of a thigh nipple, i was a bit taken back by the strangeness at first. the setting, the dialect, the food, the outfits, the whole thing feels like a sideways version of classic american war stories. plot-wise however... this movie(?) is just as strange as an Icelandic folktale. its a movie that shows you some crazy shit, then a lot of mundane life stuff, then another heaping helping of what the fuck am i watching.
i figured i could just power through the horror, but i turned it off after 29 minutes. now if you will excuse me, i'm going to watch GHOST-WATCH now.
