The fact that no one got an oscar for this movie is straight up baffling. The oscars are a big sham anyway.
I was 15 when this movie came out, and i watched it at a friends place. We shut it off within the first few minutes. I thought I was boring, slow, and hard to understand the dialogue. Like I talked about in the "IT COMES AT NIGHT" review, was it really old enough to appreciate this movie back then.
This movie is dark as hell, both literally and plot wise. This movie is basically watching a family going through hardship after hardship seemingly with no end. There is nothing funny or comedoc about this movie whatsoever. And did he all natural light style of shooting mix this movie really feel dark, cramped, and depressing. Murphys law in action.
Everyone in this movie feels some form of Guilt. Catholic guilt or otherwise. Everyone is scared, grieving, exhausted, and frustrated. Out of desperation they pray to an angry god for some form of relief, which never comes. This is definitely one of the most bleak movies i have ever seen.
10/10
