That scream review left a bad taste in my mouth, so im going to do this a lottle differently. Normally how I would talk about how much I love this movie, how great the performance from Anthony Hopkins is, and how awesome the practical gore is. But I think I would do for myself doing that again. If you seen this movie before, it's, it's painfully obvious how much rules and you don't need me to tell you that. Instead i want to talk about a few themes this movie centers around, and some smaller details i found interesting. I wrote down a couple bullet point notes when I was watching this movie to talk about, so let's just go down the list.
• Women in The Workplace
The majority of this movie is Clarice starling surrounded by men. Who wrote the movie I get the impression that she's being looked down on almost the entire time simply for being a woman. It's a great commentary on gender equality, and is definitely a them throughout this movie. And speaking of gender of course I have to talk about
• Gender/Trans issue's
The term transexual is thrown around a lot in this movie, thats a phrase that isn't really used anymore. Animal describes him as not a full transexual, he just thinks he wants to be. Obviously that's a problematic take on what being transgender means. I'm not saying this because I'm offended by the movie either. I think it's important that we have stories like this that show just how insensitive we were two words issues like these.
• Is Hannibal Reliable?
Hannibal talks a lot, and is usually very intentionally cryptic. He doesn't want to tell you in black-and-white terms exactly who's doing this and why, he wants you to find out for yourself. He gives you the pieces, and you put them together. But can you trust what Hannibal tells you?
• Departments Arguing
The man who runs the Asylum where Hannibal is kept, Frederick Chilton, does nothing but impede the investigation at every term. He is constantly trying to block Clarisse seeing Hannibal Lecter, and in doing so is making the whole process take alot longer than it needs to. Stuff like this happens all the time, and arguing jurisdictions has probably let 100s of cases unsolved. I can't really say how prevalent it is nowadays, but a certain there was an issue back in the day.
• The Lambs
Clarice telling her story of the lambs is obviously a very emotional moment. I think the most important moment in that scene its when wecut back to Hannibal, and he's tearing up. I'm not sure if Clarisse noticed this, but this is definitely the most interesting moment for his character for me. The story of the Lambs is ultimately a story of her fear of death, I think animal can relate to this in some way. I don't think Hannibal is totally emotionless. He's a psychopath, but not a sociopath.
I'm not really sure how to end this one. Hopefully this new style is a step in the right direction and I definitely had more fun writing this than the scream review. I'm not sure why but that whole review really rubs me the wrong way. I really enjoy that movie and I feel like it's hard to fully explain why. It sort of just a feeling that you gave when you wash it's almost indescribable. I would argue this movie has a very similar feeling. It's extremely enjoyable and only the way someone who's watched it before can relate to
10/10
