What's wrong with you? Besides the obvious surface flaws.

The New York Ripper was released on 4 March 1982 in Italy. It grossed 1,039,731,282 Italian lira during its original theatrical run, and found similar commercial success abroad. But in the United Kingdom, the film was screened for the BBFC, with Carol Tpolski describing the film as "simply the most damaging film I have ever seen in my whole life" and "a relentless catalogue of the eponymous antihero/villain cutting women up." the brits have a habit of getting there panties in a twist over video nasties such as this, so if the brits cant handle I'm twice as excited to check this movie out. especially with such a bizarre plot description
A killer who talks like Donald Duck targets sexually active New York women, brutalizing them in increasingly twisted ways. Now It’s up to Lieutenant Williams, who knows plenty about vice, to catch the deadly Disney enthusiast. Of course, this being a Lucio Fulci film, every step closer results in dismemberment, disemboweling and death. Set in the heyday of sleazy 1980s Times Square, which was rife with adult shops, theaters, and clubs, Fulci’s sickening slasher inspired an orgy of outrage and censorship.
this movie is no where near as instantly lovable as HOUSE (Which is how i will be referring to HOUSE BY THE CEMETARY from now on), but it still has all the hallmarks of a Fulci movie. Despite the extreme violence in all of its kills, this movie is essentially just another 80s slasher helmed by a very talented director. the characters are flimsy, the cops are all totally uninteresting, and the reveal isn't satisfying at all. but Fulci as always has a ton of fun with his camera work and composition, and this movie has several shots i would call beautiful without hesitation. 80s New York is always a great setting for a horror movie, and this movie always keeps you moving from grimy alleyways to dark porno theaters. and the kills, holy shit the kills....
this movies violence is undoubtedly extreme for any time period, and its not hard to see why this film was banned so quickly. unfortunately however a lot of this movies best directed scenes are its kills, and most audience's were to distracted by the violence to really soak in the film making. and yes the kills are crazy gorey and disturbing, but the way this movie treats its women is equally disturbing. the violence you can clearly tell is fake, the misogyny however is 100% real.
also fucking anyone with your foot is just... do i really need to say this?!
8/10 cause Fulci made all the yucky very pretty
