Christ, I thought I was the sicko for being interested in autopsies. if this is your favorite movie ever, you are officially one sick twisted fuck.
As a fan of the first TERRIFIER movie, I am very familiar with Leone's style of gore first plot and second directing, and really didn't know what to expect from this movie. I have been hearing for a while now about how supposedly the gory sequences allegedly led to emergency services having to be called from viewers fainting and vomiting in theaters, and this is one of the longest slasher movies I have seen with its 2-and-a-half-hour runtime. Does this movie justify its runtime with more than just gore? only one way to find out.
Terrifier 2 is a 2022 American splatter slasher film written, directed, edited, and produced by Damien Leone. It is a sequel to Terrifier (2016) and is the third feature-length film to feature Art the Clown and the second to feature the Terrifier name. Resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to Miles County to terrorize a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night. The film originates from a feature film concept Leone began developing shortly after filming his directorial debut short film The 9th Circle (2009). The concept of the planned film focused heavily on a heroine in an angel costume battling the Art character. It ultimately fell apart, but after the release of Terrifier (2016), Leone wanted to bring the heroine back as the protagonist—she would evolve into Sienna, someone Leone describes as the "heart and soul" of Terrifier 2. Leone spent three months writing a character-driven screenplay following criticism of the first film's perceived lack of narrative.
this is a movie I really wanted to enjoy, but just like the first TERRIFIER movie, this movie focuses mostly on gore and not enough on making an enjoyable film. Do you know how most horror movies show a bit of normal family life before shit hits the fan? well, this movie starts fairly miserable and nagging right off the bat family-wise. In fact, almost all of the non-kid characters are constantly pissed off tyrants, and everyone's constant nagging gets old real quick. yeah yeah yeah the gore effects in this movie are some of the nastiest I have ever seen, but that is not enough to make an iconic Halloween slasher with this already iconic character. David Howard Thornton deserves a better home for this masterpiece character.
It's too meandering, I really don't give a shit about any of these characters, the gore sometimes launches into tastelessness, and as a whole, this movie could be described as unnecessary. it kind of feels like a do-over at making the first TERRIFIER, the only real reason to watch this movie is to get a tiny more ART lore.
Both Leone and Thornton have confirmed that a Terrifier 3 is planned, along with further installments that will slowly build on Art's background and motives. In October 2022, Leone said he had an entire treatment for a third film but it "is getting so big that it could potentially split into a Part 4 because I wouldn't want to make another 2 hour 20-minute movie."
