THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER

In 2018, on Fathers day, my dad and i first talked about me leaving the house. the fathers day thing was a horrible sort of coincidence by the way, but regardless soon after i left home. and by left home, i of course mean i moved in with my friend a few blocks away. and with the new place came some new luxuries. a pool table, small patio, an ancient cat named Dennis, and a theatre room. all of those things were fun, but the theatre room felt glorious. i played PS3 games of yore, tried and failed to watch MAD MEN, and most importantly watched this movie for the first time.

the open heart surgery playing on an entire wall of the house was strangely hypnotic, and the way Yorgos makes movies is hypnotic. this movie is definitely an easier watch than DOGTOOTH. It has the same tension, still creepy and uncomfortable, but far less bleak. for the majority of this movie (and 100% of DOGTOOTH) people have 0 feeling in what they are saying, and it makes everyday family scenes seem deeply unhappy.

mix that with more weird family stuff, some actual music cues, and some good old fashion child murder, you get my favorite Panos movies.

also re-watching for this i just noticed the groundhog day stuff. not terribly subtle huh?

10/10
