I have a lot of Stephen King fans in my life, and you probably do too. As a kid, I was always interested in reading some of his work, but I was always told I wasn't old enough. , eventually, I made my mom enough and she told me if I could handle this story that I could start reading Stephen King.
She handed me a book of short stories (skeleton crew) and let me read the Jaunt. was eager to prove that I was old enough to handle it so I eagerly read the story. Right off the bat or remember being surprised that it was such a heavy science fiction story. This book is a bit of a Slow Burn, which ultimately makes the horror at the end even more effective. I made it through almost the entire story and had decided it wasn't that scary, and figured I would finish it then move on to the scary stuff. And then I read that last page. Long story short I slept with the lights on last and have been reading Stephen King ever since
This is is not my favourite Stephen King story, but it affected me like no other story has since then. Well, maybe a few but that's another story for another time.
