THE INVISIBLE MAN (2020)

Updated: Oct 30, 2020

When this movie fist came out, i saw no reason to watch it. i hadn't seen the original, and honestly i thought it looked like a cash grab. then people started telling me that it was worth watching. so i caved, and decided to watch it. and oi wish i would have watched this when it came out.

This movie makes me feel tense and nervous at the one second mark. as a man who both works night shift, i am all to familiar with sneaking around are trying to not wake anyone up. and i also know how scary even the quietest sound can be. the opening of this movie freaked me out, in a way i haven't felt since hereditary. any kind of abuse will always effect me deeply, and these type of movies will always make me feel deeply uneasy and freaked the fuck out.

the effectiveness of this movie is almost entirely based on the performance of Elizabeth Moss. Just like Toni Colette, she makes this situation seem believable. she looks scared as fuck, and i cant help but feel the same way. but beside the gut wrenching scenes of abuse and its metal health effects, the side characters are arguably as good as the lead. honestly every character in this movie seems like a real person, and it helps sell the horror. and god damn there is some horror to be had.

the first knife our invisible douche appears, we subtly see a knife go missing. immediately we know that our lead is in real danger. the long and slow shots of empty settings really show off that he could be anywhere, and i love that feeling of suspense. this movie also makes excellent use of silence, mixed with a John Carpenter like synth soundtrack.

i would love to talk about this movie all day long, but i will save you the trouble and give it a perfect

10/10
