"My victims never knew what was going to happen to them. I've had shooting, knifings, strangulations, beatings, and I've participated in actual crucifixions of humans. All across the country, there's people just like me, who set out to destroy life."
-HENRY LEE LUCAS
You know, i have gone my whole life under the impression this is a Stephen King movie. It is not.
well shit. Also that tagline is stupid.
While transporting a car from Chicago to San Diego, Jim Halsey picks up a hitchhiker named John Ryder, who claims to be a serial killer. After a daring escape, Jim hopes to never see Ryder again. But when he witnesses the hitchhiker murdering an entire family, Jim pursues Ryder with the help of truck-stop waitress Nash, pitting the rivals against each other in a deadly series of car chases and brutal murders.
you know why it took me so long to watch this movie? i thought it would suck. and it does indeed suck, but its not a irredeemable disaster. Rutger Hauer (John Ryder) isn't scary. as a concept its scary, but on screen it just doesn't translate somehow. we really don't see the results of his "killing spree" which means he could be bullshitting the whole thing. a little blood trickle on your shoelace is not enough to make me scared of this asshole, and thus there isn't much suspense. this movie seems to be advertising itself as an action packed highway thriller, and it just isn't.
you get to slowly meander through the justice system, slowly meander through boring nightmare scenes, and meander through TV movie level acting. its also got more than a few plot holes, and worst of all this movie is constantly padding the run time with boring bullshit.
how this movie ever got a sequel, i will never no. maybe next time you should make this a 30 min short film.
