Some movies are mad simply for the money, some are made because a director has a passion for creating art, and some movies are made just so you can moon the camera and cover an old man in grease. this is about as far from A24 as it gets.
Ronnie runs a disco walking tour along with his browbeaten son, Brayden. When a sexy, alluring woman named Janet comes to take the tour, it begins a competition between father and son for her attentions. It also brings about the appearance of an oily, slimy, inhuman maniac who stalks the streets at night and strangles the innocent-soon dubbed the Greasy Strangler.
there's a surprising amount of films that fall under the "its funny because he is fat" Kevin James type of humor that is lazy and overdone. I love how this movie is full of wall to wall nudity and revealing clothing without ever using anyone's body as a punchline. it feels like one big fuck you to the Hollywood standard of beauty, and I love how uncompromising to total filth this movie is. its full of scenes made for the sole purpose of grossing you out, but never in a way that feels random or pointless to the movies plot itself. it helps that this movie is jam packed with perfectly so bad they are good characters, a great script with dozens of jokes I will be quoting for days, and a perfectly whimsical soundtrack to fully immerse you in this oily ass universe.
almost every cast member is extremely vulnerable with there performances, and full credit to everyone who worked on this movie for giving 110% in every scene. Ronnie (Michael St. Michaels) and Brayden (Sky Elobar) are absolutely perfect in there roles comedically and emotionally, Elizabeth De Razzo is hilariously vulnerable with 1000% confidence, and Sam Dissanayake gives possible the best line of the whole movie "Its the Boogie Woogie!!".
every single person in this movie deserves a full shout out for there amazing work, and the only way you could ever know why is by watching this wonderfully strange movie.
