THE COLLINGSWOOD STORY

As someone who was born in the 2000s, people seem to be under the impression I couldn't possibly be nostalgic for the early 2000s. even though I spent the first decade I was alive exploring the early 2000s, and most of my childhood memories have this same style to them.

When Rebecca went away to college her boyfriend John thought webcams would help them stay in touch. But idle curiosity leads to a dark secret when they video chat with Vera Madeline, an online psychic, who initiates a deadly reign of terror over their lives.

The Collingswood Story is a 2002 American computer screen supernatural horror film written and directed by Michael Costanza, and starring Stephanie Dees, Johnny Burton, Grant Edmonds, and Diane Behrens. Its plot follows a college-aged couple who attempt to maintain their long-distance relationship via video chatting; however, a chance encounter with an online psychic plunges their lives into a world of nightmarish supernatural phenomena. In an August 2022 editorial "The Evolution of Found Footage: A History of Screenlife Horror" The Collingswood Story is referred to as "the first true Screenlife horror flick." The film has been cited as a precursor to a number of horror films presented in the computer screen format, such as Host, Paranormal Activity, and Unfriended.

although this movie suffers from mediocre acting and sometimes sluggish pacing, there is far more for me to enjoy than there is to complain about. For one thing, Michael Costanza is one hell of a good director when given the chance. this movie's camera work usually comes from one of the character's mounted webcams or somebody wandering with their laptop, but in between are these lovely out-of-context shots that are Lynch levels of beautiful. Thankfully our old pal Mike has stayed in the film field, writing, directing, producing, and of course, directing whatever catches his fancy.

I have never really enjoyed THE BLAIR WITCH movies (all of them are yucky) but this movie just works for me.

8/10
