"Whew! Thank you, thank you! That is why I won't do two shows a night any more, babe, I won't, I won't do em." -Beetlejuice
This movie opens the door to a lot of interesting conversations. i could talk about our death obsessed culture, how the power given to people by religion can be manipulated, how power corrupts, our even how you need to get off your damn phone and start raising your damn kids Karen.
but i am mostly going to talk about the possession genre as a whole. my thoughts on the genre for along time was that these movies just exist to make the christian feel like super heroes, and turn priests into bad asses who are on the front lines. that wasn't the only thing that turned me away from the genre. another reason i didn't really like possession movies was that i felt like i couldn't relate. the whole thing seemed cartoonish to me, so i avoided them for a long time.
but recently i have changed my stance on the genre. now im not saying that this movie made me fall in love with the horror genre or anything. overall i think this movie is pretty bland. but recently i have seen a lot of decent ghost/possession movies. and i think its time i look at possession movies differently. and with that out of the way, lets talk about this movie.
this movie is bad. not terrible, but watching this movie felt like a chore. the plot feels like it was written by an old man, the effects are mostly CG, and the characters are absolute garbage.i saw a lot of 5 star reviews for this movie on shudder, and that honestly confuses me. at least thats what i thought until i saw how this movie ends.
holy fucking shit that was amazing. not only do we get one of the coolest creature transformations of the last decade, but we get a massive amount of kills in this movie. if i told you how this movie ended right now, you probably wouldn't believe me. its one of the most bat shit crazy movie endings i have ever seen. so for its amazing ending alone, this movie gets a grand total of...
