Nothing worse than bad neighbors, especially when their house I haunted by an extremely violent ghost/demon/naked tallboy. maybe he was just trying to be a good neighbor and introduce himself to the folks next door.
When strange events occur in a neighborhood in Buenos Aires, a doctor specializing in the paranormal, her colleague, and an ex-police officer decide to investigate further. before the 10 minute mark, we get what is easily the most disturbing and threatening attack from a ghost I have ever seen on screen. it's one hell of a punch to the gut, and it aggressively sets the tone for the rest of this equally insane and violent movie. most like this would focus on a single house, so having the whole neighborhood full of unique hauntings amps this movie above the rest in terms of scale. even if this movie focused on its first house I would have been in love, but the sheer size of what's happening makes POLTERGEIST feel tiny by comparison.
when making a movie with this many quality scares, it can often feel like the script is just a vehicle for the gore and supernatural scenes. it holds its cards close to the chest and never feels predictable or boring at any time. all of the characters in this movie are intelligent and are perfectly skeptical before it's too late to do anything about it. it's the very definition of a horror movie, and its main function is to scare the fuck out of you.
the crazy violent ghost story feels completely believable, and the only word to describe me after watching this movie would be...
terrified.
