hope y'all cleared your schedule, cause we have six full acts or crazy ass supernatural shit to sort through. don't worry though, it will be a blast.
if you have to replace GOBLIN, Thom Yorke is one hell of a good choice.
when it comes to remaking a movie like this, they didn't have much plot to go on. in the original SUSPIRIA, characters were disposable and visuals reigned supreme. if the first movie was a fairy-tale, this remake is a bleak grey nightmare. The first thing i really enjoy about this movie is how easily several well known actors disappear into there roles. Tilda Swinton, Chloe Grace Moretz, even Dakota Johnson all give incredible performances in a movie full of them.
the bright color pallet may be gone, but the incredible production design is here to stay. despite the setting for this movie being washed in grays and browns, all of the locations are packed with details. the dance academy is the perfect blend of realistic and otherworldly, and all of the harsh German architecture gives the constant feeling that something isn't quite right. somewhat ironically, its like every single setting of this movie is a big red flag. but instead of focusing on the colorful visuals, this movie focuses on its characters.
The best way to describe the tone of this movie is the feeling a fly must get after realizing he has been caught in a spiders web. Where ever you go in this movie, you get the feeling you are being watched. Madame Blanc is perfect as this movies spider, and she is the perfect mix of approachable and terrifying. in the first movie the witches weren't much of a threat, but this movie establishes them as violent and controlling from the very start.
overall, this movie is the best possible adaption of SUSPIRIA, that loving uses a lot of the original plot points while still feeling entirely unique. i love the dream sequences, the hook weapons used by the witches, the crazy practical gore, the way they explain the three mothers, and all of the amazing acting from the whole cast. its such a long movie that is so filled with politics and other things to talk about its a daunting task to even begin, so i cant recommend you watch this yourself enough.
