Suitable Flesh is a 2023 American horror film written by Dennis Paoli and directed by Joe Lynch. Based on the 1937 H. P. Lovecraft short story "The Thing on the Doorstep", it stars Heather Graham, Judah Lewis, Bruce Davison, Johnathon Schaech and Barbara Crampton. Psychiatrist Elizabeth Derby becomes obsessed with helping a young patient who's suffering from extreme personality disorder. However, it soon leads her into occult danger as she tries to escape from a horrific fate.
I was really excited for this movie going in. With Barbara Crampton on board and a re-animator style Lovecraft script, this movie advertised itself as a spiritual successor to the Stuart Gordon classic. Not to give too much shit to an OG master, but most lovecraftian adaptations don't really work so well besides a few scattered examples. As far as Lovecraft movies go this one 's better than most, but boy oh boy was I disappointed.
This movie spins a lot of its run time being emotionally uninteresting desperate housewife story, with a crazy dash of grandson / grandpa sexy time. The characters are real paper thin here, and the acting isn't exactly top quality.
I was so tempted to shut this movie off, so i did at just under an hour in
You fuckers tricked me/10
