Nobody tell James Gunn about this movie, he might make an early 2000s Alien horror comedy remake with Nathan Fillion. or maybe SLUGS is the remake. Or SHIVERS. or WAITING ON THE WORMS
City slicker Mick (Don Scardino) makes his way to the swampy little town of Fly Creek, Ga., to see his girlfriend, Geri (Patricia Pearcy). After meeting up with her, Mick learns that the area has recently been ravaged by intense storms. More troubling is the appearance of large worms driven up through the soil by the downpours. But what Mick, Geri and the locals don't realize is that the electricity from downed power lines has caused the worms to go mad and develop a taste for human flesh.
This movie was my first exposure to the Georgia accent, and hot damn is it unique. i have always found accents and there origins interesting, and i would be curious to learn how many different accents exist in the south. anyway.....
now to the part where i complain.
holy mother fucking titty sucking baby chucking mind fucking shit is this movie slower than a Georgia draw. what is advertised as a creepy crawly horror movie could be more accurately described as wandering around but fuck no-where for an hour and finding skeletons. you are constantly left waiting for anything even remotely interesting to happen, and when we do get some of this movies great practical effects and worm scenes they are over before you can blink. to be fair this movie isn't terrible in any way. the characters are all fine and well developed (because god forgive this movie have any action) but there is only so long i am willing to wait for them to do anything at all to make this a horror movie.
i never thought i would say this, but i would rather watch NIGHT OF THE LEPUS than this worm covered snooze fest.
it is still impressive on a technical level. maybe just look up the worm scenes on you tube and save yourself an hour and a half of your life.
5/10
