Man this movie was a disappointment.
The script is so paper thin and basic that I had zero interest in the plot what so ever. The original series doesn't have the best reputation as far as scripts writing, but this really is about as basic as it gets. The characters are nothing but cliches, the sheriff has no authority whatsoever, and The acting is the bare minimum.
Perhaps this movies greatest sin is neutering jigsaw. Instead of sounding intimidating, jigsaw sounds like Tina Belcher's cousin. That being said, I am a fan of the new pig mask design. And as far as torture porn goes, this one's full of some hard to watch gore. For some reason none of the Saw traps in this movie feel as satisfying as the previous entries. Surprisingly in this torture porn series, the gore here all feels just a bit to far over the line.
And speaking of the previous movies, this movie is loves to reference itself. We get the obligatory shot of John Cramer, the original score, the flashing music video style editing, the far too convoluted cop plots, and many unnecessary flashbacks. Every complaint you could have about the original series is accentuated by 5 times. It's a terrible corny mess that feels like a modern B movie from the early 2010s.
I never would have guessed that this movie would be even worse than JIGSAW was. I really hope they stop trying to keep the saw franchise alive.
