Oh another horror remake of an 80s classic. that usually goes well...
to be honest, i wasn't a big fan of the original movie. besides its themes on gender, its a boring milk toast slasher movie that really finds its own voice in part 2.remaking the original creates a lot of opportunity for this film to touch on the same themes in a new way, but unfortunately this movie only cares about being more graphic and cranking up the horror.
or at least that's what the fake out intro for this movie had me thinking
(double fake out opening bitch!! you don't know me!)
i may not be the biggest fan of the original movie, but is has a certain charm to it that this movie fails to fully capture. the original had a really strong relationship between and older and younger sister that was easily one of the movies greatest strengths. this movie does not. the originals movies cast of women all felt unique and had there own personality. this movies cast all kind of blend together .
but its not all bad. the house across the lake is full of lovely himbo boys who are all perfect douches. this movies driller killer is just as bizarre as the original, and none of the characters here are terrible. you can tell they had a solid idea for remaking this movie, and it has a lot more personality than a lot of remakes i have seen. you can tell the people who made this movie understand what makes the original so great, and they did the best they could to recapture that magic.
maybe a bit less on the nose snappy dialogue would help.
7/10
