SCREAM 5

Whatever your thoughts on this movie, negative or positive, this movie has definitely given me a fuck ton time to talk about.

First of all I saw this movie on opening night (Jan 14th) and I just have to tell you how my experience was watching this in a theater. The evening started out normally enough, I bought my ticket online, bought a large popcorn and Mike's hard Lemonade, constantly kept pulling my pants up so I didn't show the public anymore of my ass crack that I was unfortunately showing, and found my seat in a see of people who all seemed younger and less interested than me.

For some reason are you hoped it would be a bit more celebrated being opening night with the typical movie theater promotional popcorn buckets, and I was disappointed to see zero fanfare whatsoever. I couldn't even see a poster for the movie as the theater it ended up being showed in was the farthest away from the entrance.

The audience was just a reflection of that lack of interest, so I started this movie pretty bummed. The audience remained pretty mum and boring during the whole movie, so I walked out of the theater and stood around waiting for my ride smoking my customary after movie joint. As I'm standing there trying not to look like a meth addict, I can't help but overhear this wonderful group of four middle-aged people talking about the movie and their theories on how the series might continue. Instantly I was in a great mood.

we are now at the high point of the story, so unfortunately there is no where to go but down. It was as I was standing there after finishing my joint that I realized I had to shit as soon as possible. I start to ponder whether I will be able to hold it in, or if I will have to run back through the movie theater (and their covid QR code and ID check) and relieve myself. After about a minute of debating which to choose, my body answered for me and I started walking towards the doors of the theater. At that exact moment am I right pulled up behind me with my hand still on the door handle, so I climbed in and sat through the 10 minute ride home in a state of semi-delirium.

The good news is there was no code brown, I am now home, and we can talk about this..... This fucking movie. Actually before we talk about SCREAM 5, we kind of have to talk about the SCREAM series as a whole, and why this movie both shits all over it and pays it loving tribute.

Before this movie came out the consensus was SCREAM 3 was the worst scream movie, and although I agree I never had the problems with that movie a lot of people had. Ignoring the magic voice changer, the biggest complaint I hear about that movie is the I think I love you musical number. For some reason that scene has always just worked for me, and the whole thing feels perfectly in line with the way the scream series is as a whole. From the very first movie Matthew Lillard's acting and Wes Cravens script ensured that this series would have a somewhat lighter and more comedic tone than the violent slasher schlock (boy do I love schlock), and that's the reason it's one of my favorite series. It pokes fun at itself to the core, In a whole series is full of lovely self-aware humor that's land because of the strength of its characters.

Deputy Dewey is one of my favorite horror characters of all time, Matthew Lillard gives easily one of my top five movie performances of all time, Randy Meeks is perfectly relatable without ever feeling over the top, Sidney Prescott's a bad-ass bitch, and Gale weathers is... I mean come on she's Gail fucking weather's. As many times as we've seen it before, when it's done right a good SCREAM movie always feels like a warm blanket to me. And SCREAM 5...

This movie fails to hit several key marks that every other movies in the series so far has. Most of the comedy in this movie sucks ass, there is not a single new character in this movie that feels like a real human being, and The killer reveal is the most uninteresting in the entire series. As soon as this dumb-ass Richie appeared on screen I knew almost instantly that he was the worst film character in any movie I'd ever seen. I've been in high school plays with better actors than this man, in the only single seconds of a joy I got out of his performance was watching him die. I can't stress enough just how plastic every single new character in this movie is, and it really makes the series veterans stand out in this sea of mediocrity.

Thankfully this movie managed to really successfully use the original cast members and get a surprising amount of emotional scenes in with almost all of them. It felt like seeing old friends you haven't seen in a long time, and

When deputy Dewey finally died It felt like losing a lifelong family pet. The very first blind Sidney Prescott says in this movie had me near tears, and I'd be a liar if I didn't admit that I may have had to wipe some moisture away from my eyes after watching Gail react to the news. All of these incredible scenes with the original cast (including some great ghost-face kills) Is what makes me so torn about this movie. Seeing Judy Hicks finally die is a delightfully fun moment, here in ghost face talk so much is a fucking delight, and it gives deputy dewy a fitting end, Even though I always hope it would be Gale weathers that would be the first to go. He was to young....

Anyways sometimes this movie is incredible, sometimes it's more cringe inducing than Sonic flossing, and hopefully this will be the movie to end the scream franchise.

Come to think of it that's exactly what I said about Halloween 2018... And I mean more excuses to use give Roger L Jackson work is something I will always watch.

i really don't know/10
