Scanners are men and women born with incredible telepathic and telekinetic powers. There are many who exercise the benefits of their special gifts in a safe and judicious manner. Dr Paul Ruth finds Vale, a powerful scanner, and uses him to stop Darryl Revok, another powerful scanner who wants to form an alliance with others of his kind and dominate the world.

a lot like Croneburg's other movies, this movie is unlike anything i have ever seen before. Its a tad bit slow and confusing, but everything you need to know is explained soon enough and you can stop trying to figure out whats happening and enjoy this movie. its quite far ahead of its time with how it plot unfolds, and as always Cronenburg slips in his own wonderfully disturbing art. Its packed full of delightfully strange characters, the same vibrating voice effect from CREEP-SHOW, simple but effective kills, and some surprisingly strong acting from most of the cast. the best thing i can compare this to is a mix of THEY LIVE and Blade Runner in the best way possible.

usually movies that start a franchise like SCANNERS did have some kind of unique magic, and this movie is no exception.

it does still drag on a bit and feel boring at parts though
