Did anyone notice the cemetery directly beside the hotel in the first movie? No? Me neither...
also this series keeps throwing around the term PUPPET MASTER like its an actual job title. maybe we will get THE PUPPET APPRENTICE with some other rich asshole host
As of now, we are officially entering all of the PUPPET MASTER movies i have never seen before. there really isn't a good plot description for this movie online, so god only knows what we are in for.
Toulon's puppets help collect brain tissue from human victims for Toulon to create his formula to animate the inanimate. The victims this time include a group of researchers from a US department, responsible for investigating the paranormal.
We are only at the second movie in this big old series, and i already find myself attached to all these awesome puppets. André Toulon's grave is being excavated in Shady Oaks cemetery behind the Bodega Bay Inn. Pinhead dusts off and opens André Toulon's casket, then climbs out and pours a vial of neon liquid on the corpse, while Tunneler, Leech Woman, Blade and Jester watch on from the grave’s edge as the skeleton’s arms rise into the air. its a wonderfully gothic intro to the movie, and seeing all those puppets damn near made me cheer. and we arent even 5 minutes in yet
A few months later, parapsychologists Carolyn Bramwell, her brother Patrick, and the flirtatious Lance and Wanda, are sent to the hotel to investigate the strange murder of Megan Gallagher from the previous movie. and speaking of the previous movie, all of the human characters are far weaker than the first PUPPET MASTER while being equally horny. at least we get more Alex Whitaker who was thrown in the looney bin after the first movie, and is suspected of the murder of Megan Gallagher. While at the asylum, his terrible seizures and premonitions are perceived as lunatic rantings. those scenes are fun and all, but they are very few and far between. I admit in theory its kind of a funny bit to have these paranormal investigators who have no idea what they are in for getting there shit rocked by some evil puppets, but in execution it feels rather sluggish and boring at parts. most parts
this movie really only exists to get more sweet puppet kills, and the kills are unquestionably the best part of the movie. This movie is also the introduction of TORCH, and i love TORCH like he was my own soon. all of the puppets have a lovely sense of vulnerability and emotion to them, and TORCH is no exception.
long story short i really don't like this movie very much. lets just move on and hope PUPPET MASTER III is far less of the same shit in a different movie
4/10 but TORCH is still my favorite lil guy
