PSYCHO 1998

I used to have this poster hanging in my bedroom, and when I figured out it was for the PSYCHO remake I was disappointed. For a long time, I had 0 interest in watching this movie. why bother remaking one of the greatest horror movies of all time? would they try and update the story for modern times? who the hell let Vince Vaughn play Norman Bates? the fact that this movie exists at all is completely baffling to me, and the only way i could really have an opinion about this movie was to sit down and watch it. some of my favorite movies are remakes, so how bad could it possibly be?

This movie zapped everything away that made the original psycho so iconic. For one thing, Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates simply doesn't work. Anthony Perkins worked perfectly as a thin and dorky looking man who wasn't intimating or off putting at first glance. His character starts as sympathetic, and is only really revealed to be a threat at the end of the movie. but there is something about Anthony Perkins acting in the original that makes him fascinating to watch even now. Vince Vaughn is possibly the least subtle he could possibly be, and comes off as a threat almost instantly. Not only that, but his silhouette couldn't possibly belong to an old women in the window. His casting here is a major shot in the foot for the whole movie, and by far the worst part of this movie.

Other than that, this movie is an exact copy of its original. the script is identical, the cast is unremarkable, the soundtrack is the same, and they never try anything new. the only change they made was to film in color, which adds absolutely nothing to watching this movie. its psycho without any of the charm of its original, which just makes the whole movie feel like kicking a long dead horse.

may we never forgive Vince for his crimes against my eyeballs.

I would rather stick my entire scrotum into a slap chop than watch this sacrilege\10
