POOKA!

If ya'll ever need a holiday themed full movies worth of horror goodness, i cant recommend HULU's INTO THE DARK enough. they have episodes on International women's day, pet appreciation week, Easter, first day of school, hell even an episode all about the first spring full moon. this is the only episode i have seen, but hot damn if the rest are this good i may just have to binge a few more episodes.

A struggling actor gets a holiday season job as a character in a plush suit to promote the hottest toy of the year. The costume begins to severely alter his personality, and he worries the character may be taking over his body.

if you want a story about a spooky fur-suit and that's it, you wont be disappointed. it doesn't have as many kills as some gore fans might hope for, but there is plenty of well done horror. its not an easy task to make something both child friendly and terrifying, and whoever designed POOKA! hit the mark perfectly. whether its doing a silly dance for small kids or jerking off alone in the darkness of his apartment, POOKA! is perfect for every occasion. almost like he has a naughty or nice setting or something...

POOKA! is great and all, but you know my favorite part about this whole movie? no, its not the amazing directing, the vibrant color pallet, the trippy dream sequences, not even POOKA! scarring a small child for life makes my number one spot. the best thing about this whole movie is Wilson. the whole story uses POOKA! as a metaphor for his anger and trauma, and boy oh boy does it make Wilson the most fleshed out character. it easy to think that just because of all the positive things happening in life that you aren't the same angry asshole of a person, but the only way to put that anger to bed is to work through it. as much as you think things are better, more often than not its just a mask covering the pain. it doesn't make you a bad person, it just makes you human.

sounds a lot better than being a POOKA! to me.

10/10
