An episode of Black Mirror is about 52 minutes depending on which season you're in. The host is just barely longer, so I will give each episode it's own review. Maybe, in the end, I will put them all together but I doubt it.
Playtest the episode I've seen the most. The idea of having a VR/AR horror experience without any kind of equipment is definitely a terrifying thought. With the constant advancements in AR/VR tech, this seems futuristic but not impossible. I think that's the real horror of the black mirror, is everything in the show seems like it would be 100% possible, or at least possible in the near future.
My own personal experience with horror VR games is very limited. I have only played one real VR game, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I think part of the reason I feel safe is the obvious video game appearance. Not only that, but having to manually set everything up prepares you for the experience as well. When you're in the game, you know all you have to do is take the headset off.
But when it's in your brain and you don't when it's coming, I don't think I would be able to handle that. Mix that with being unable to trust your own reality, and welcome to your own personal hell. That also taps into possibly my greatest fear, having a mental condition that makes me forget my friends, family, and even who I am.
Like Alzheimer's for example.
This is definitely one of my favorite episodes, great twist, great effects, great spooks, great time.
10/10
