MOONRISE KINGDOM

I remember this feeling, from when I was that age and from when I was in fifth grade, but nothing really happened. I just experienced the period of dreaming about what might happen, when I was at that age. I feel like the movie could really be something that was envisioned by one of these characters.

-Wes Anderson

Moonrise Kingdom is a 2012 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Wes Anderson, written by Anderson and Roman Coppola, and starring Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Bob Balaban, and introducing Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, as a young boy and girl fall in love they are moved to run away together. Various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down - which might not be such a bad thing.

A lot of this movies plot details are based on the real life childhood of Wes Anderson

Wes was briefly a Scout, and had acted Noye's Fludde, an opera for children about Noah's Ark. A childhood incident inspired the scene where Suzy reveals her parents' book Coping with the Very Troubled Child. He found a similarly titled book belonging to his father and remarked, "I immediately knew who that troubled child was." It's a movie chocked full of realistic character details and little quirks that really give this movie a soul, but as far as Wes Anderson tackling a romance goes certainly comes off a little cold.

This is a movie where every single character feels autistic, either because of their mostly monotone line delivery or the little ticks I mentioned earlier. The two main star crossed lovers in this movie are both the most monotone in the movie, and their relationship feels a little underdeveloped until later in the movie. When you think of romance you usually think of characters bursting with emotions, and this movie everyone is so subdued It's hard to tell they're even in love at all.

It's still a damn good movie that deserves your attention, I feel like it just takes a bit too much time to dick around with a side characters instead of focusing on its love story element.
