I tend to write notes while i am watching the movie so i can have a vague idea of what to write. sometimes its a lot of notes, but for this movie i made 2. the first note said "Every american male character sucks." now im not saying that there are poorly acted, im just saying every american male in this movie is a total dick.
the other note i wrote was 3 words, and i think is a good summary of this movie. brutality shown beautifully. all of this films gore is shot beautifully, and its part of why i love this movie. another reason this is one of my favorite movies is the beginning always makes me emotional. i have very similar experience with my mother, and i have gotten lots of texts like that that scare the shit out of me. and of course, when the texts are coming from someone who is bipolar, its hard to tell how serious the threats are. i got a lot of those messages growing up, and its definitely feels like a fitting subject for a horror movie. and thats not even what the movie is about, thats just how it starts.
this movie is the ultimate breakup movie. the movie centers on a small community in Sweden, but its really not about that. this movie is about breaking out of toxic relationships, and the importance of finding a community of supportive people to help you. a home.
after the suffocating depiction of grief in HEREDITARY, this movie feels hopeful and sunny. this movie make me scared, almost made me cry in the first 10 minutes, and is one of the most effective horror movies since hereditary.
10000/10
