KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE

You know the wacky side character in most 80s slashers who ends up stealing the show? Characters like crazy Ralph from the first Friday the 13th movie who are just so damn strange you cant help but love them? that's every character in this movie.

in case you cant tell yet, saying I love this movie is a massive understatement. he first thing you fellow SFX nerds will be excited to know that this movie is Helmed by the Chiodo brothers. You may recognize the name from there work on the CRITTERS series, Weird Al's UHF, a Simpson's couch gag staring Gumby, Team America world Police, and so many more classics effects. and what happens when you give a team of Practical effect artists a feature length horror movie? you get the massive display of SFX talent that is Killer Klowns.

if this movie simply had the main gang of 4 clowns, it would be impressive as fuck. all of the Klowns are incredibly unique, violent, and of course just plan wacky. but the Chiodo brothers really went above and beyond, creating dozens of unique Klowns that we only ever see in one scene. I cant recommend enough that you check out the concept art on the brothers website, which I will link to down below. it that attention to detail that makes this movie the PSYCHO GOREMAN of 1988. if that wasn't enough, the space ship the Klowns arrive on is possibly my favorite film set ever. Its exploding with color, style, and of course looks like it was decorated by Klowns-R-US. But even before this movie dives head first into Klown town, the human meat bags are just as wacky and stylized. most of the characters are straight up vaudevillian, and in this wild ass movie it works perfectly.

mix all of that with the legendary score by John Massari, the countless moments of comedy, a few bags of cotton candy, and the worlds largest funhouse, you get my favorite 80s horror comedy.
