IT COMES AT NIGHT

Not so long long ago

in the mysterious land....

of Red Deer Alberta.

I went with some friends to see IT COMES AT NIGHT.

when we left the theatre, 2/3 of us wish we had gone to see Ghost in the Shell instead. I had talked them into going to see this movie instead, and hence felt someone guilty. In fairness, A24 didn't really how how to market this movie. and before this, i had never seen anything by A24. If you're not familiar, MIDSOMMAR, Hereditary, KILLING OF A SACRED DEER (My personal favorite), Moonlight, The Lighthouse, A Ghost Story (the most confusing film i had ever seen) and a bunch more.

as you A24 fans out there know, these movies have a very distinct style that can be jarring to new comers. i didn't understand this movie when i first saw, and wasn't sure i liked it. now i definitely like this movie

its full of awesome tension, some great scares, and some even more fun nihilism. all of the characters feel like real people dealing with impossible odds, and of course it is all shot beautifully. the color pallet feels like sickly greens and blues, and the lighting makes you feel like there might be something behind every shadow, which all give this movie a great sense of dread and unease that never really lets up.

10/10
