This film was very important to baby Eric's love of horror.
once upon a time, in the distant land of Stettler Alberta, I saw the trailer for this movie. I was 10 years old when the movie came out, a, nd really wanted to see it in theatres. I never saw it in theatres, but my dad told me we could pirate the movie and watch it online whenever there was a decent copy of it available. about a month later we found a copy, and I thought it was the best horror movie ever made. I remember being excited as hell for the sequel, and by that time I was deemed old enough to see the movie in theatres. it was probably the first time I felt like an adult, and since then I don't think I have ever stopped loving horror.
So do I agree with my 10-year-old self on the "best horror movie ever made" claim? of course not. that being said, this movie has a lot of great scares. the further is an amazing setting that through all of the sequels never really gets old for me. this first movie is full of jump scares, but most of them are well set up and executed. the movie has a tense sort of feel at all times, knowing that there's a legion of spirits clamouring to regain there life.
and of course I can talk about this movie without singing the praises of Elise. she is one of my favourite characters in all of the horror, and she is a real delight for this and future movies. a kind old woman who kicks some demon/ghost asses. not only that, but her companions are equally charming. we have specs, a nerdy little fellow played by saw co-creator Leigh Whannel. makes sense since the director of this movie is James Wan, of course, the other of the 2 SAW creators.
and tucker, who is just a big burly bear boi who is deadly serious. hot stuff.
overall INSIDIOUS has a lot of great settings, characters, spooks, and Tiny Tim what's not to like?
9/10
