"The first idea with the story was to change the sex of the killer. In horror movies it’s always a guy chasing after young girls; it’s one of the clichés of the genre. So the first main idea was changing the identity of the bad guy. We wondered what was the motivation for a woman to hunt another woman?"

Man i can barely handle baby stuff under normal circumstances. i Shudder (not a sponsor) to think what the French Extreme genre will do with that kind of material... any-who merry Christmas everyone!
Four months after the death of her husband, a woman on the brink of motherhood is tormented in her home by a strange scissor wielding woman who wants her unborn baby. also its Christmas eve so i am very justified in covering this movie. kinda
the first thing this movie hits you with is its sickly color pallet that reminds me of the American remake of THE RING. its a fairly colorful movie considering the mundane settings, but something about it feels very early 2000s the sweeping orchestra music is something that has to be earned in order to avoid feeling ridiculous, and this movie earns it by doing a damn good job of establishing strong characters by doing very little. i love how this movie takes things slow at first to build up the tension, then goes full on french extreme on your/our ass. a lot of horror movies often feel like an excuse to cram as much shocking and violent content in as possible, but this movie feels closet to a strong drama with horror elements. i'm always down for some in your face fast paced horror, but in my experience its the slow horror movies that creep up on you that are the most effective.
and now that the horror has started we enter ACT II, or as i like to call it
ACT II: WAIT... WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING
Is she hallucinating? is an of this actually happening? why is this happening? do they know each other? am i the one who is hallucinating?
nothing but questions and kills at this point, but quick shout out to this movies Fem Fatal Béatrice Dalle for being such a brutal horror villain. the movie has a bunch of outside characters who keep ending up in the house, and all of them die in wonderfully practical kills. she reminds me of Mark Hoffman going straight up terminator in the later SAW movies, and even when standing still she makes my skin crawl.
