For a while now I have been trying to get through will to power by Frederick Nietzsche. It's entirely different than any book I've ever read in it's formatting, And most of it still doesn't make much sense to me. It has almost no straight through plotI found it so difficult to read in fact that I've taken to reading small bits of it piece by piece. And every time I read it, I find myself underlining some key phrases that help me understand the whole book better.
This movie was a lot like that for me. It is taking me about a week to watch the 3-hour movie, simply because of how densely packed this movie is. A lot of the scenes are out of order, full of non sequiturs, and it can feel almost impossible to separate the plot of the movie with its surrealism. To the point where I can't even try and talk about the plot because I barely understand it myself.
It's important for me to explain that David Lynch filmed this movie on small handheld camera called the Sony DSR-PD150. So the reason this movie looks like it was shot on a mid-quality 2006 camera is because this movie was shot on a mid-quality 2006 camera.
What you're essentially getting with this movie is David Lynch's INSIDE. That is if Bo Burnham had the budget to fly to Poland and film in mansions. he shot the whole thing himself and quite literally edited it in final cut pro. It's a strange combo with the large budget, massive sets, and casting choices. The cast here is absolutely incredible, And I'm quite surprised David got this many people to sign up for this "experimental film".
If you're going to watch this movie I recommend watching the behind-the-scenes footage first. I recommend hearing David Lynch talk about this movie and his creative process. And perhaps most important of all, I recommend you don't immediately after finishing this movie look up a YouTuber explaining the whole thing for you. Are you confused? Not really sure what it all meant? Good. That's the fun part.
Wait.... What?/10
