HELLRAISER III: PINHEAD TAKES MANHATTAN

Updated: Aug 22, 2020

Pinhead is undeniably one of the greatest horror villains. Spawning 10 sequels, hell-raiser one is one of my top 10 horror movies. Doug Bradley both as pinhead and as Elliot Spencer gives an amazing performance. Pinhead has a sort of Morgan Freeman quality, where he could say literally anything and i would be hypnotized by him. his dialogue in every scene is absolutely perfect, and combine that with his amazing makeup and costume design you get one of the most iconic villains in horror history. that being said, i feel like Pinhead totally cry's after sex. just saying.

Hellrasier has always been about sex, death, and religion. Hellrasier 3 takes a bit of a different turn form the other movies. instead of a small house or a mental asylum/hell realm, this one takes place in various places around New York. instead of having to convince the other characters that pinhead and his cenobites exist, they are out in the open, walking down New York streets and killing an entire night club. for the first half of this movie, i kept wondering how this movie connects to all the other ones. thankfully, about halfway through we get a fairly good explanation on how the films connect.

this movie also reeks of the 90s. 90s rock music, a cenobite that launches CDs at people, and 90s fashion are all this movie. and speaking of cenobites, we get quite a few new ones in this movie. one that shoots CDs, one with a camera stuck in face, and one called Piston-head, who is by far the worst of the bunch. this movie however delivers on the amazing gore, extra Doug Bradley, more cenobites, and best of all Pinhead just fucking murdering an entire 90s nightclub. not as good as the second one, but not by much. i will be curious to see how the 4th one continues the story

9/10
