hey you know the guy on the space ship rambling about how he summoned hell and we all should leave? lets go into his room one at a time to make sure he wasn't lying.
the best thing i can say about this movie is that the concept is very ambitious. Three generations of the same family deal with the consequences of unleashing the forces of hell. In 18th-century France, Paul L'Merchant works as a toy maker until he's coerced into creating a box that serves as a portal between hell and Earth. The box summons demonic Angelique and Pinhead, who -- 200 years later -- hunt down John Merchant. Then, centuries later, Phillip Merchant prepares for a final confrontation.
so three generations, three settings, and way more than three bad actors. out of all the hellraiser movies, this one is the first in the series that feels like its from a totally different series.the acting sucks, the tone is all over the place, and this movie spends a lot of time explaining things that never needed to be explained. Angelique is a totally pointless part of this movie, and her terrible acting and chemistry with the equally terrible John Merchant is the worst part of this movie. with such poor characters and jumbled up timelines, this is easily the worst HELLRAISER i have ever seen.
but even in the worst HELLRAISER movie, there is still plenty in this movie to enjoy. Doug Bradley as Pinhead always gives an incredible performance, and this movie is no exception. The production design for PINHEADS sphere of influence is fun as hell, and i will always be hyped to see him show up and start launching hooks at people. plus we get some fun new cenobites and even Split-face from THE THING shows up. if you are a fan of the horny gory mess HELLRAISER movie always are, this movie is worth a watch.
but just one watch, the acting here is really bad.
