HARD CANDY 2005

Believe it or not, i have been somewhat avoiding this movie because of the whole... ya know... pedophile grooming kids online thing sounded intense. i was 100000% correct

After having online chat room chats for three weeks, "Thonggrrrl14" convinces "Lensman319" to meet in person in a public place, they being up front that they are a fourteen year old girl and thirty-two year old man respectively. They are indeed precocious fourteen year old Hayley Stark and thirty-two year old photographer Jeff Kohlver. Their interactions, including their meeting, are laced with indirect sexual innuendo, most specifically on Hayley's part, although Jeff is clear also in an indirect manner that he does not have sex with minors. Regardless, Hayley is further able to convince Jeff to continue their face-to-face at his place. There, both Hayley and Jeff's true intentions come to light, their meeting which was no accident on either side, and the intentions which may be incompatible and have serious and deadly consequences.

this movie is tense as fuck from the second it starts. its a good 25 minutes of a girl about to be raped, and it turns an otherwise normal date into one of the hardest to watch things i have seen in a long time. Elliot Page is a powerhouse of an actor even at 18years old, and her performance in this movie is painfully believable as 100% real. He gives an incredible duo performance as this movies victim and antagonist at the same time, and the craziest part of all is how easy he makes it look. for the rest of this movie we enter a sort of mind games cat and mouse bit that really keeps the rest of the movie interesting.

Is Jeff guilty at all? Has she done this before, and if so how many times? how much of Jeff's diagnoses was accurate? What's her main goal? Does Jeff deserve what happens to him? What lead her to do this in the first place?

i cant really talk about this movie without spoilers, so i really encourage you to check out this movie if you haven't already. its incredibly acted, directed, and incredibly tense as fuck horror movie.

1000/10
