Within the first minute Halloween H20 perfectly captures that Halloween atmosphere. Just seeing a full down decked out and Halloween decorations does my soul some good. The opening kills of this movie come relatively quickly, and show just how brutal Michael Myers is. Not only brutal, but intelligent. He knows exactly where he has to go to find information about Laurie Strode.
Laurie Strode is a mom now, who moved out of Haddonfield and then to California. She has her Flaws, and is actively trying to better herself. She's not just a total bitch, all if her paranoia comes from a place of love.
It's a delight to have Jamie Lee Curtis back in the Halloween franchise, and her character in this one is awesome. You can see how this version if Laurie could be a younger version of the Halloween 2018 character.
All of the scenes with Michael Myers are very well shot, and show the perfect amount of the shape to be scary. It's much more scaring snow that he could be absolutely anywhere, just waiting to jump out and attack. I think Halloween 2018 and (of course) the original Halloween are the gold standard for how to film the shape.
The soundtrack this time around is far less synth heavy, and more of an average horror movie score. Lots of large Orchestra pieces in Epic swings. Although I do prefer the synth soundtrack of the earlier movies, I don't find the soundtrack to this one too distracting. Almost every John Carpenter movie has a kick-ass soundtrack, but this really isn't a John Carpenter movie anymore.
Great kills, great characters, great movie.
