Suburbia is all about private ownership and not having to share, and it leads to a paranoid, defensive mindset. I know this, having grown up in Essex.
This movie has no real plot description that does this movie justice, its more of a feeling. the feeling of realizing you're trapped inside a 90s sitcom. the feeling of being trapped in an endless summer in the plastic world of daytime TV where nothing is allowed to go wrong. and when it does go wrong...
I am in love with this movie. despite there being no real horror elements (in act one), the whole movie is one giant takedown of conformity. the whole movie feels like it was made to be a normal Desperate Housewives style movie, with a black Christmas style giggling psychopath waiting in the wings. not only that, but it feels like there is always a gun pointed at the whole cast. as if even a single mistake in anyway would lead to death, and any individuality what so ever is an unimaginable crime. Julian is the antagonist of the movie for the sole reason that he is a creative kid bored with suburbia, and its tragic to watch these brainwashed adults drag this poor kid around.
TLDR: This movie is a wonderful absurdist comedy that gets more and more horror elements as the story(?) unfolds. its unsettling, hilarious, scary, and most of all colorful as fuck.
