If you've got love in your sights, Watch out, love bites
-DEF LEPPARD
The horrors of modern dating seen through one young woman's defiant battle to survive her new boyfriend's (Sebastian Stan) unusual appetites.
Screenwriter Lauryn Kahn said she wanted to write a film that would appeal to people who were horror fans and people who weren't, and she really nailed it with this movie. Its a effective romantic comedy and a horror movie at the same time, and i found myself enjoying both elements of this movie equally. Daisy Edgar Jones is by far my favorite part of this movie, and her acting is what really sells the reality of the whole situation. and yes of course Stan the man is also amazing, but you already know that.
!SPOILER FROM HERE ON OUT!
Going into this movie, you probably know its a cannibal movie. i was expecting something like SANT CLARITA DIET where one partner is a killer, and the other gets roped into helping. that is not at all what this movie is. the movie never dives into horror until the 33 minute mark, but holy shit does this movie get to human centipede levels of nasty real quick. the surgical removing of ones ass cheeks is obviously more comedic than you expect from horror, and it really shows how this movie exists in two genres at once without sacrificing any gore or jokes.
With its 2 hour runtime its impossible to talk about everything that makes this movie work so well, and i cant recommend enough you watch this movie enough
7/10
