One year for Christmas, my folks bought me all of the goosebumps books. Yes i said all of them. and a few Halloweens later, I figured I was a brave enough boy to rent a fear street DVD from the video store. my Ma made some popcorn, we hit the lights, and by the time the intro was over i made my mom turn it off. i have never read a fear street book before or after. So when i heard of a Fear Street film trilogy on Netflix, I was almost instantly curious. was thing going to be a PG-13 half assed nostalgia cash grab? how violent was Mr. Stine willing to get? Why make 3 movies?
For the first half, this is definitely just a lazy cash grab. its the least realistic high school i have ever seen, the characters are annoying, and worse of all they rip off ghost face. i had planned to leave this review as simply "its bad", but the second half was a surprise.
if you can handle waiting it out, it becomes a sort of 13 ghosts for the modern era. One massive cast of unique serial killers all coming to kill you? its hard not to enjoy that. mix that with a creep show style color pallet and some surprisingly violent kills, and it makes the constant 10 second clips of 90s music and mediocre acting almost bearable.
6/10
