DUNE (2021)

my first exposure to DUNE was the David Lynch movie, and i found it so bad i stopped watching less than halfway through. My pops finished it somehow, and when i asked him how he liked he said and i quote; i don't get it. so why in gods name did i want to see the new version in theaters? god only knows, but i'm glad i waited a bit and saw it for free.

are you the kind of person that can watch the extended version of all the Lord Of The Rings movies? then you can probably watch this movie no problem without getting antsy or checking your watch. if your like me however and various forms of social media have chipped away at your attention span, this might be a hard one to finish.

this movie feels like it was made for a fan base i am not a part of. they throw a lot at you in one movie, and reading the book would definitely ease some of the confusion. but as much as this movie can be confusing, it also beats you over the head with the important stuff so you don't forget since you just a dumb ass audience member who needs to be babied. yes movie we get it, the bull is important, Zendaya is important, and dreams are important, you can stop telling us that now.

another reason this movie failed to engage me is its characters. at any point in this movie, i found that i really didn't care who died and who lived. Timmy's acting in this is basically monotone, and it feels like he only got the role because teenagers think he is hot. there are so many other characters running around that you never have time to get attached to anyone emotionally, which really makes this movie have zero stakes. you know Paul will live through whatever they put him through, so there is no sense of danger or action. the actions scenes in this movie are all painfully obvious fight choreography, and when paired with the poor acting and barely developed characters it makes this movie feel 4000000000 hours long.

despite my dozens of complaints, this movie isn't purely torture. i love the way this movie looks. the costumes, the setting, the directing, every piece of the environment is perfect. i'm a huge fan of floaty fat pinhead, and all of the different houses and planets are gorgeous. and uh... Oscar Issac is hot as shit and gets naked so that's pretty neat. thus ends the nice things i have to say about this movie.

i'm curious to hear what hardcore DUNE fans thought of this movie, bu as far as what i thought this movie gets a well deserved

6/10
