as you walk into the theatre, you hear your shoes stick to the floor with every step you take. The air is full of cigarette smoke, and the few people in the theatre seem high or drunk or both. perhaps a tourist in the back row is rambling about someone named jack. you flip down a squeaky chair and sit down just as the previews start playing. Now and only now are you in the correct head space to watch this movie.
surprisingly, i really enjoyed this movie. PLANET TERROR made me think all of these strange Tarantino/Rodriguez grind-house movie would be trash with over the top gore and nudity. although the nudity and violence hold true, this movie is really great. Kurt Russel as Stunt man Mike is hypnotic and instantly became one of my favorite horror villains. most of this movie however focuses on small groups of women. And i dont mean horror movie barely human women, i mean real characters that are fun as hell to watch and well acted. And thats on even talking about the directing, which makes this movie feel like a genuine 70s-80s movie.
So if you thought this movie would be a fast paced action horror movie you were wrong. But if you came here for nasty practical effects and crazy car stunts you wont be disappointed.
when the girls finally catch up, i was quite literally yelling at my T.V with pure shock and joy. this movies finale is pure adrenaline.
