CREEPSHOW MEGA REVIEW

Updated: Apr 2, 2021

Since the season 2 premiere of the 2019 CREEPSHOW remake was yesterday, there is no better time to talk about all of the pieces of creepshow media. buckle up kiddies this one could be long.

never in my life have i seen a real CREEPSHOW comic book, but i did manage to get my unreasonably excited hands on 2 issues of TALES FROM THE CRYPT. They are exactly what you expect from a horror comic plot wise, Revenge/morality tales that are as predictable as they are violent. the violence mixed with the colorful comic book art style worked super well both on the screen and page. the movie how ever really used the comic book style in a way that instantly became classic. The first CREEPSHOW movie holds up really well, and it kicked off one of the strangest and most fun horror series since Evil Dead 2. and i didn't even mention the insane cast or gore and creature effects by tom savini. seriously, this first movie is B movie gold.

And speaking of sequels, CREEPSHOW 2 improves on almost everything about the first one. more Stephen king stories (but sadly less Stephen King), more comic book animation, more amazing work from Tom Savini. at this point, CREEPSHOW as a whole has done nothing but improve since day one.

and then they announced a new series in 2019. This could have been the first piece of CREEPSHOW media that managed to fuck up one of my favorite series. But both Greg Nicetero and Tom Savini were involved. Tom Savini even directed an episode. and the new show did justice to the format quite well.

once again the plots here are real basic, but the effects by Nicetero are quite literally the best i have ever seen. The new CREEPSHOW is basically just a way to let Tom and Greg continue making the best creature effects on screen today. How can i not love it? perhaps best of all, this show has no problem doing some of the weirdest shit on TV. Santa VS Furries, Bob Ross VS The Evil Dead, and so much more strangeness i dont have the heart to spoil.

If you haven't before, now is the best time to get into creepshow.

10 except for the twittering dead segment from the Halloween special cause that shit was really fucking stupid/10
