It's nice to have a movie that looks and feels A24 quality was such a reasonable run time.
COBWEB is a 2023 American horror thriller film directed by Samuel Bodin in his directorial debut. Its screenplay, written by Chris Thomas Devlin, was included in the 2018 The Black List. The film stars Lizzy Caplan, Woody Norman, Cleopatra Coleman and Antony Starr. An eight-year-old boy tries to investigate the mysterious knocking sounds that are coming from inside the walls of his house, unveiling a dark secret that his sinister parents have kept hidden from him.
This movie is such a well-paced nasty little gem Perfect for October / Halloween, that unfortunately got released right in the middle of the Barbenheimer fiasco. It's the full-blown nastiness BARBARIAN mixed with a real nasty ANTLERS kind of child endangerment storyline that's that's always been pretty damn effective. It's one of the most constantly tense horror movies I've seen in a while, It's chock full of terrifying performances. Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr (AKA Homelander from THE BOYS) are as bizarre as they are complex, and every single scene with them has made clenching my shrinkers tight as can be.
The hour and a half run time really blows by, as the movie has a way of constantly raising the staked while giving you more pieces of the mystery at the same time. It's a real downward spiral into a nightmare, and I loved every second of it.
