This is the first movie I have ever covered that opens with a warning about the quality of its footage. Also you would think the plastic surgeon in hiding would… oh I don’t know…
I can’t in good conscience say that this movie is good, but something about it kept me interested. Perhaps it’s the 1960s circus setting that is largely used as an excuse to have this movie filled with circus performances. Perhaps it’s this movies gore and facial scarring effects which surprisingly look amazing with the perfect touch of 60s goofiness. I suppose you could say that this movies tone is my favorite part. You can tell that everyone is trying to make this a serious drama, but the whole movie feels like a room full of theatre actors. It’s the kind of movie that’s full of bizarre acting choices, corny music, and everything else that make B movies like this one enjoyable. Yes, its slow at times and full of characters that are impossible to care about, but this movie has more than enough little moments that I cant help but love.
I love Dr. Horny’s awkward kissing scenes with his performers, the way everyone talks in this movie, the long circus scenes that add nothing to the plot, and even the 10 year time jump that is totally unnecessary.
In short, this movie isn’t good, but I enjoyed myself watching it.
